Configurion ASRock ION with Ubuntu

I bought an ASRock ION330 HT to use as a home theater system. It comes without OS, so I thought of Ubuntu/xbmc. For the most part the installation went on smoothly, with 2 notable exceptions.

Video Drivers

System,Preferences,Hardware drivers -> Accept the suggested NVidia driver. without it, XBMC runs absurdly slow, selecting a button with the mouse is impossible.

Digital sound

Whatever I tried, no sound was coming through the digital output (S/PDIF). The magical word here turned out to be unmute: for whatever reasen, audio is standard muted. Start alsamixer and 'unmute' all. The text-graphics interface is tricky, beter install and use gnome-alsamixer.
